Devotional Message
The way our faith develops and grows is through the ebbs and flows of life. It is in moments of deep pain and suffering that we often seek God and His word most earnestly, allowing us to pivot the way we live and surrender to the divine plan. Whenever we are tested in these moments, regardless of the pain we’re experiencing, those are the exact moments where our faith deepens—trusting God a little bit more and reading His word a bit deeper.
Romans 10:17 tells us, ‘Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.’ This reveals that faith isn’t self-generated—it’s responsive to hearing and receiving God’s truth. The importance of regularly hearing God’s word is so that our initial reaction to pain, problems, or challenges becomes rooted in deep faith. By hearing God’s voice and truly understanding His message, what happens the next time we experience a similar challenge to one we’ve had in the past is that our reaction is slightly different—one of peace, trust, and surrender.
When things don’t work out, we remember God’s timing. When we experience a health flare-up, we believe God is going to restore us. When we find ourselves in a difficult relationship, we trust that we are learning a deeper lesson through it. While the challenges in our lives may remain the same, the way we approach them is different—because we have God’s word at the forefront of our mind, allowing us to bounce back quicker.
But hearing God’s word is just the first step—the formula for true embodied wisdom and belief is knowledge plus experience. So when we read the word about Christ, we may first intellectually understand it. But it is through our lived experiences—the trials and tribulations—that we truly embody that wisdom, allowing it to become our belief system and way of being.
How can we hear this faith-building message? We pray to Him and let His voice speak through us. We look out for messengers in our physical world, listening to advice and guidance from those we hold dear. We go to church and hear the sermons; we consume content that brings us into a deeper connection. When we put Christ at our center, every single moment of our daily lives becomes an open dialogue with God Himself—where everything we hear, experience, or witness becomes another opportunity for faith to grow through hearing the message about Christ.
Let’s Pray
Dear God, thank you for giving me access to your Word and for reminding me that you are always sending me messages, even in moments where my faith has wavered. I’m grateful that faith comes from hearing, and I can hear your truth through the message about Christ.
My journey toward you and the relationship I have with you is ever-growing, and sometimes, I do put you second. But I want you to help me listen more attentively to Scripture, to your messages, and to your divine guidance. Allow me to respond to life’s challenges with deeper faith, and let your voice overpower those negative forces.
I commit to regularly engaging with your Word, knowing that as I hear it more consistently, my faith will deepen and grow stronger. Help me to be not just a hearer of the Word, but also a doer, as my faith responds to what I’ve heard. Amen.
