A Prayer for When You’re Done Making Yourself Small

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and
love and self-control.

2 Timothy 1:7

Reflection

There comes a quiet moment, sometimes born out of exhaustion, sometimes clarity — when you realize that you have been asking for less than what God placed within you to carry. This isn’t because you’re ungrateful, but because you’ve gotten so used to staying small, to staying quiet. You’ve learned how to manage expectations. You’ve learned how to downplay your intuition. You’ve learned how to soften your presence, in order to avoid being misunderstood, to avoid taking up space in a world that once made you feel like you were too much.

But God never asked you to disappear.

He didn’t form you with hope inside of your heart just to have you bury it deep within yourself. Every part of you — your wisdom, your tenderness, your strength that doesn’t always speak loud but still holds weight, was made with intention. He didn’t ask you to become less. He asked you to be faithful

Still, when you spend your life shrinking, you begin to forget that. You forget your anointing. You forget the authority you’ve been given. You forget who sent you.

There’s nothing holy about hiding.

Your softness was never meant to be turned into silence. You can be gentle and bold. You can be grace-filled and unwavering. You can be tender and still fully alive in the calling God has placed on your life. You don’t have to keep editing yourself down in order to make others more comfortable, especially when the people you are trying to accommodate or impress were never meant to define your worth.

This reminder isn’t about chasing attention — it’s about refusing to deny the light that God has put inside of you. It is about showing up with quiet conviction, not external performance. It is about honoring the fullness of who you are without apology or fear. You don’t have to earn the right to be seen. You already are. You don’t have to prove that you are called. You already were.

Prayer

God, I don’t want to live a smaller life than the one you created me for. I’ve learned how to hide — not out of humility, but out of fear. I want to unlearn that now. I want to live in the fullness of who you have called me to be, not for recognition, but for your glory. Help me to move with integrity, with gentleness, and with the courage that comes from being anchored in you. Let my life reflect what I no longer need to prove.

Amen.
