When You Miss Them, Choose Yourself Anyway

You can miss someone and still choose not to return to what hurt you. Sometimes healing is that small and that brave: feeling the pull backward and choosing yourself anyway.

God: I noticed you didn’t reach out to them tonight.

You: I wanted to.

God: I know. I saw you pick up your phone. I saw you put it back down. I saw you sit with the wanting instead of giving in to it.

You: It felt harder than it should have.

Missing them isn’t a sign that you made the wrong choice

Jacqueline Whitney

God: It always does at first. The wanting doesn’t disappear the moment you choose differently. But every time you choose the version of you who doesn’t reach back, you’re strengthening her. She’s becoming your default.

You: I still miss them.

God: You can miss them and not reach for them. Those two things can exist at the same time. Missing them isn’t a sign that you made the wrong choice. It’s a sign that you actually loved. But love isn’t the same as needing to go back.

You: So this counts as progress?

God: This is more than progress. This is the moment your healing became active instead of theoretical. I’m proud of you.
