Devotional Message

The fundamental declaration about God’s nature that Jesus shared with the disciples is that God not only has light, but is light—indicating purity, truth, holiness, and revelation beyond what we see within ourselves. The absolute truth is that within God, there is no darkness at all—His pure essence is light, with no mixture of anything else. This truth allows us to shift our understanding of sin and holiness, helping us realize that the darkness that envelops us throughout our lifetimes—evil, negativity, deception—does not come from our Source.

While the divinity of God dwells within each of us, so does our humanity. We may falter. We may do the wrong thing, say the wrong thing, go the wrong way. But regardless of what we have done, it is God’s inherent light that combats all of it—that purifies us, cleanses us, and redeems us. It is His light that exposes what needs to be cleansed, reveals what needs to be released, and guides where our souls were meant to go.

Each time darkness tries to envelop us, we can remember this foundational message that John ‘heard from him and declares to you’: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. Because we are His children, we too can reflect this light in our own lives. As long as we walk in His light rather than in darkness, we too can resemble purity, truth, holiness, and revelation. This isn’t about perfection but about living in the light of God’s truth, allowing His pure light to transform us from the inside out.

Let’s Pray

Dear God, thank you for your pure nature and trustworthiness, and for showing me that you not only have light, but are light itself. I confess that there are many areas of my life where darkness has crept in, preventing me from fully seeing your light or honoring it as I should.

But I want your help to walk in your light, so that I can reflect your purity, truth, and holiness to others, be a mirror for them, and help them walk in your light as well. Please cleanse me from any darkness and use me as a vessel to showcase your character, so that your light can illuminate the world around me. Thank you that in you there is no darkness at all, and for calling me to live in that same light. Amen.
