Your Daily Devotional 8/23/2025: You Don’t Have to Find God—He Found You

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

Luke 19:10

Devotional Message

Jesus is the active seeker who pursues us when we’re lost. The Son of Man—Jesus Himself—came with one divine mission: to seek and to save the lost. Each of us at some point in our lives will feel lost—separated from God by sin, by doubt, by fear, wandering far from His presence. Yet, Jesus’s ultimate purpose was to save us—to rescue, redeem, and heal our hearts so that we can be restored to relationship with our Heavenly Father. When humans couldn’t find their way back to God, that’s when the Son of Man initiated His rescue mission, rather than leaving us to find Him on our own. The reality is, when we are lost, that is precisely when and how Jesus finds us.

This verse reveals the heart of God—He seeks us, not the other way around. Jesus didn’t come for the righteous who thought they had it all together; He came specifically for the lost, the broken, the wandering. We don’t have to search endlessly or force the relationship, nor do we need to become a different person in order to receive or feel God’s love. Jesus came to seek us exactly as we are—lost. His entire earthly mission was focused on this one purpose: seeking and saving the lost. There is profound comfort in knowing that God always pursues us, especially when we feel furthest from Him.

Each time we take a step away from God, we assume we have lost Him forever. We move another step away, and another one, and another one, only to feel like we have gone so far that it’s impossible to find our way back. But the beautiful truth is that the Son of Man came to seek us in our lostness. We don’t need to find our way back to Him—He comes to where we are. Not waiting for us to return, but actively seeking us out in whatever far path we’ve wandered to.

This is what it means to be saved—not just forgiveness of sins, but the profound truth that we don’t need to seek God because the Son of Man came to seek and save us. We were lost, and He found us. We were separated, and He came to bring us home. The seeking has been done; the saving has been accomplished. Jesus came for this very purpose.

Let’s Pray

Dear God, thank you that Jesus came to seek and save me when I was lost and couldn’t find my way back to You. I’m grateful that I don’t have to search endlessly or become perfect to receive Your love—You actively pursue me exactly as I am. When I feel far from You or like I’ve wandered too far away, help me remember that the Son of Man came specifically to find the lost, and that includes me. Give me an open heart to receive Your love and light, knowing that You’re always right beside me, even when I can’t feel Your presence. Thank You that being saved means I don’t have to seek You because You already found me. Amen.
